Rules Committee Democrats Call For Hearings on House Ethics
Ranking Member, Rep. Louise M. Slaughter Critical of Rampant Conflicts of Interest
Washington, DC - Led by Ranking Member, Rep. Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY-28), Democratic members of the House Committee on Rules today called on Republican Chairman David Dreier to hold hearings on House Ethics, and specifically on H. Res. 131, a bipartisan proposal to restore the ethics complaint process after it was unilaterally gutted by the Republican leadership at the beginning of the 109th Congress.
This is great... my favorite line for the speech is, "On Tuesday, I will introduce the Fairness and Accountability in Broadcasting Act, which will enforce the public interest obligations of broadcast station licensees to their local communities, and return the public airwaves to the people who own them."
We should all jump on board and help this effort out at www.FairnessDoctrine.org. Be sure to check out the rest of Congresswoman Slaughter's release.

Washington, DC - On the heals of news that yet another member of the media, syndicated columnist Maggie Gallagher, was paid by the White House to promote Bush Administration proposals, Rep. Louise M. Slaughter (NY-28), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Rules, convened an expert panel yesterday to discuss fairness and accountability in the media.
Washington, DC. - Following is a statement from Rep. Louise Slaughter (NY-28), Ranking Member, House Rules Committee, in response to an article from yesterday's Congress Daily PM, which detailed Rules Committee Chair David Dreier's plan, "...to work more closely with other committees to identify and resolve controversies before they take legislation to the House floor."
"The English translation for Mr. Dreier's plan is simple: Eliminate democracy, debate and dissention from the House of Representatives. This is a dangerous precedent to set in the opening days of the new Congress.
