Ranking Member, Rep. Louise M. Slaughter Critical of Rampant Conflicts of Interest

Washington, DC - Led by Ranking Member, Rep. Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY-28), Democratic members of the House Committee on Rules today called on Republican Chairman David Dreier to hold hearings on House Ethics, and specifically on H. Res. 131, a bipartisan proposal to restore the ethics complaint process after it was unilaterally gutted by the Republican leadership at the beginning of the 109th Congress.

This is great... my favorite line for the speech is, "On Tuesday, I will introduce the Fairness and Accountability in Broadcasting Act, which will enforce the public interest obligations of broadcast station licensees to their local communities, and return the public airwaves to the people who own them."

Louise Slaughter (NY-28), Ranking Member, House Rules Committee, in response to an article from yesterday's Congress Daily PM, which detailed Rules Committee Chair David Dreier's plan, "...to work more closely with other committees to identify and resolve controversies before they take legislation to the House floor."

"The English translation for Mr. Dreier's plan is simple: Eliminate democracy, debate and dissention from the House of Representatives. This is a dangerous precedent to set in the opening days of the new Congress.
